Yesterday I was invited to come and celebrate the 1-year birthday of the Spanish restaurant El Sur at Westin. It was an evening packed with good food, good drinks and good company, and I can tell you that this is most definitely the best 1-year birthday party I’ve ever been to.
Instead of birthday cake, we had Spanish tapas including a rather amazing Serrano ham, an instead of hot chocolate and sodas, we had sangria and cold beer.
El Sur is located where the bar Senyar used to be, and it still has quite a bar-like feel to it, but it’s nice and the outdoor patio comes with sea view and a cooling breeze. Luckily, we arrived early enough to snatch one of the outdoor tables before we had a closer look at the food. The hand-cut Serrano ham was outstanding. I asked the chef how come it taste so much better than the machine-cut version of the same piece of meat. He explained that the machine could be too rough on the meat and thus ruin the texture. It made sense. As this was a special event, I’m not sure whether the food we had is identical with what’s usually on the menu, but in addition to the Serrano, I hope that the bass ceviche with guacamole is among the ordinary menu items. It was very delicious, and the tempting buffet with the bite-sized portions was right next to our table, so I think I had 10. What can I say? I’m a food blogger. I eat food:)
Happy birthday El Sur!
