In Tórshavn, we had dinner at Barbara, which is a new fish restaurant located in a beautiful old Faroese house. We had the From Our Fjords Menu, which took us through most of the menu highlights. First out was some amazing horse mussels. They were the size of a hand and incredibly tender and delicious.
Then followed more mussels, monk fish and an interesting side dish with tomatoes on a bed of anchovy cream. Barbara’s Fish Soup, which is one of their signature dishes ensured a smooth transition from the mains to the dessert, which was a tasty lemon meringue composition.
Everything we had (except for the lemon-meringue) tasted as if it came straight out of the sea, which was probably also the case. The service wasn’t super fast, but the staff members were all very friendly and with a good knowledge of both the food and the wine.
Regarding the wine, we had the accompanying wine menu consisting of a welcome drink, different glasses of white wine and a very nice cider. I fell a little behind, because the Faroese are quick drinkers, so when we reached dessert, I had a line of half-full glasses in front of me:)
