When is the right time to launch? I have been asking myself that question many, many times during the last couple of months, because when you have been working so hard on something, you want to make sure that the timing is just right so your business gets the optimal conditions for succeeding.
Though as the months passed, my obsession with picking the right time to launch had turned into a fear of launching. I kept coming up with excuses for why I needed more time. Just one more week, turned into just one more month, and I realized that my fear of launching was in fact a fear of failing.
I have always lived by the Wayne Gretzky saying that “You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take”, but this time it is different. I already have a lot people, who count on me, and I know that the success or the failure of my business would potentially have a big impact on their situation. The fear of letting them down made me overly cautious and passive, unable to just take the shot.
So what did I do?
I outsourced. I asked Kanary from CWSG for help to decide on a day to launch, with the only requirement that the day should be by the end of May. In Cambodia, superstition is an integrated part of most aspects of life, and if you are in doubt, you ask for divine guidance. Kanary asked the monks at the nearby pagoda, her mom The Grandma, and a friend’s mom, who knows how to read the Chinese calendar for good luck. Here are the answers we got:
The monks said that based on my birth date and my zodiac sign, Wednesday is my lucky day. They would recommend that I launched on Wednesday 20th or 27th of May.
Kanary’s friend’s mom checked the Chinese calendar, and in her opinion, Sunday 24th of May would be a good day for me to launch.
The Grandma wanted me to launch on a Monday because it is Monday. According to her religion, Monday is the best day to start a new business, since Monday is the day for prosperity and wealth.
As you can see, the answered diverged quite a lot, but after talking to Kanary one more time, we agreed that the monks and my zodiac sign probably overrules the other things, and so I decided to launch on Wednesday the 27th of May 2020.
A couple of weeks ago I registered Fair Fashionista Inc. as a C-Corp in Delaware, but right now there are huge delays in the EIN (Employer Identification Number) application process. I need an EIN to open a bank account and to set up the payment system, so it might take a while before Fair Fashionista Inc. is fully up and running, but hey, I have launched! And Wednesday is my lucky day🙂
