On our first night in Fort Lauderdale, we went for dinner at American Social which is located right on vibrant Las Olas Boulevard. American Social is one of those places which look like any other American bar, but with ambitions that go beyond chicken wings and hot sauce.
We had AmSo Mac and Cheese, Cuban Sandwich and Poke Tuna Tower. It was Poul’s first encounter with a Cuban sandwich, and it was right up his alley. Cheese, meat and no other vegetables than a few slices of pickled cucumber, – what’s not to love? I was more drawn to the tuna tower, because avocado and tuna is always a hit. All the servings were on the generous side, but the mac and cheese was enormous. In the menu, it was listed in the “To Share” section, and a family of 10 could easily have shared this dish. It was very tasty and the Panko bread crumbs were a nice touch, but half the size would have been more than enough.
In the U.S. Monday equals Monday Night Football and all the screens were showing football matches (Washington Redskins and..?). As we left we saw that Monday night was also $5 burger night at American Social. Would have been nice to know, when we placed our order, but otherwise, American Social was a very pleasant experience.
