Dubai: The Meat Co – Steak restaurant in Madinat Jumeirah

The Meat Co in Madinat Jumeirah is the place to go, for a dinner in what might be some of the nicest surroundings in Dubai. The tables outside the restaurant are next to the canal, which runs through Madinat Jumeriah, and they all have stunning views of Burj Al Arab. Since everybody wants a table outside, a reservation is crucial and don’t be surprised, if the tables outside are fully booked several weeks in advance. Inside, The Meat Co is also nice and you can watch the chefs in action in the open kitchen from many of the tables.

Steak restaurants in Dubai can be pricey, and The Meat Co is no exception. The steaks come in all grades and sizes starting at 155AED for a rump steak. A small basket of fries is included, but other side dishes and sauces are purchased separately. Expect to pay around 300AED per head for a nice steak with sauce and some side dishes to share at the table. Burgers and chicken dishes are less expensive, that’s not why you came, right?

Wines from all over the world have made their way to the wine menu, but especially the South African wines stand out. If you are not a wine drinker, there is also draft beer and several cocktails to choose among. A bottle of the cheapest red wine at The Meat Co. is 195AED, but you can also buy wine by the glass.

Poul and I have visited The Meat Co many times trough the years, as it is a perfect place to take visitors. The steaks have always been top notch, but I must admit that the service can be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes they’re fabulous sometimes the experience is a bit more so-so.  However, you’re able to forgive a lot, if you get one of the tables outside.

If you go by taxi, the driver will probably drop you off in front of Souk Madinat. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your reservation is, as you have to walk through the souk area and the maze of small shops and stalls to get to The Meat Co, which is located by the water on the other side, one stair down. Ask for directions if you get lost, as most of the shop keepers in the souk knows where it is.
