There are several branches of the Mai Tai lounge Trader Vic’s in Dubai, but the one in Madinat Jumeirah is the most popular. The attractive waterfront location, live salsa music and the multicolored and very strong cocktails all contribute to the almost legendary status that Trader Vic’s holds among expats as well as tourists.
Trader Vic’s has a dining section and a bar section (which also has tables). The tables outside are reserved for dining guests (you are required to buy at least a main course), but since Trader Vic’s major real attraction is the cocktail menu, I recommend that you stay inside and focus on all the delicious liquid items instead.
If you do not have to get up early in the morning, you have to try the legendary Tiki Puka Puka. This infamous slush ice killer cocktail is notorious throughout Dubai and probably offers one of the fastest ways to get drunk in the city.
Trader Vics is generally a very laid-back place, but the location in beautiful Madinat Jumeirah means that most people dress up anyway. The offical dress code is smart casual (no shorts allowed for your male friends).
You can easily spend an entire evening out at Trader Vics. Often, people do not show up until after 10pm but around midnight, the place is usually packed, even at weekdays.
• Early in the evenings, there are usually very generous happy hour offers.
• Most of the cocktails cost around 40AED and they are both big and strong.
