NYC: Breakfast at Pastis

NYC: Breakfast at Pastis

Pastis used to be one of my favorite spots for breakfast and brunch in New York City, but then it closed and I thought it had shut down for good. Then in 2019, after being closed for 5 years, Pastis reopened just around the corner from the original location, but I didn’t make it there before covid hit, and tbh I had forgotten everything about Pastis until Jessica asked me where I wanted to meet for breakfast.

Jessica is a friend and former cabin crew colleague and she had a layover in New York City. When I’m meeting with my old airline friends, we usually end up meeting in Meatpacking District, as it’s within walking distance from the hotel where they’re staying. It was when I was looking for nice breakfast places in Meatpacking that I remembered Pastis. I really wanted to go back and see what the new location was like, so I didn’t even pitch it as a suggestion, I just sent Jessica the time and address 🙂

The old Pastis did amazing breakfast and brunch, and luckily, not much has changed. The new spot even reused the interior from the old Pastis, and the vibe is exactly the same. If I hadn’t known they had moved, I would have thought it was the same restaurant I walked into. Pastis does perfect French brasserie food with a touch of NYC and the food, all the food, is so incredibly tasty.

I had the Eggs Norwegian which is Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon instead of ham. I really like that you can choose if you want one or two eggs. Two eggs with hollandaise sauce would usually send me straight into food coma, so being able to opt for just one egg is great. Though please note that we went for breakfast on a weekday. At weekend brunch I’m not sure you’re able to downsize the portion.

I hadn’t planned to order the blueberry scone but Jessica ordered it and it looked so good, I had to get one too. Flaky, yummy, and packed with berries, it was delicious. Also great to see Jessica again, and so fun that we got to catch up in New York of all places.
