Welcome to the happiest place in Cambodia! Meas Family Homestay is located in the outskirts of a small village in Takeo. It is Cambodia’s first homestay, and since 1999, the Meas family has been welcoming friends and guests curious to experience Cambodian village life.
After a good night’s sleep, you are awakened by bird song and roosters crowing, and even though the roosters are early risers, I cannot think of a better way to wake up. Breakfast is served at the common semi-outdoor dining area, and if you are lucky, Linda Meas will make her delicious French toast, or how about sesame crêpes with fresh fruit?
Every time I visit Cambodia, I try to book a couple of days at the homestay. It’s an amazing place to relax, unwind, and just be. Like a yoga retreat but without the yoga:) Instead, during the day, you can join some of the activities taking place in and around the homestay. Learn how to make soap from natural ingredients, or join a cooking class and help preparing today’s lunch. You can also visit the weaver workshop, and see how the artisans turn the cotton yarn into beautiful, handwoven, fabric.
In the evening, make sure you stop by the open kitchen to watch the preparation of delicious Khmer food that you will later enjoy for dinner together with the family.
Staying with the Meas family is a unique way to experience authentic village life in Cambodia, and if you are arriving from Phnom Penh, a couple of days at the homestay is an excellent opportunity to relax and unwind from the big city hustle and bustle, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, eat good food, and learn a new skill.

There is no public transportation to the homestay, but Linda can help you arrange transportation from Phnom Penh (around $40-$50 per car one way).
There are several temples and other sights located nearby the village. Linda can help you arrange excursions.
There is free wi-fi at the common areas, but if you need to be online in your room, consider getting a data plan for your phone before you go.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your stay.
There is no fixed schedule for the activities offered. If there is anything particular you would like to try, please send Linda an email and ask if it can be arranged during your stay.
Cold water showers, but the water is lukewarm, so don’t let that scare you off:)
The local market is located 5-10 minutes by tuk-tuk from the homestay. It is a bustling, vibrant place with great food and good shopping (mostly household items). Best to visit in the morning.
Weavers Project was founded by Sonas and the Meas family with the purpose of creating sustainable, economic, growth in rural communities in Cambodia. Cambodia has a strong tradition of weaving, but it is a dying craft due to the competition from cheaper, factory-made fabric as well as the declining interest among the young generation in learning the skills of weaving.
Weavers Project is looking to change that. By providing training in weaving, they do not only offer a source of income to people in rural communities, but also a hope for a brighter future for the weavers and their families. The weavers are included in the entire process from the design of the items and dyeing of the yarn, to the final product, and this inclusion sparks professional pride, empowerment, and motivation, which shows in the beautiful patterns and color combinations that are truly unique for Weavers Project.Â
