NYC: Matchaful in West Village – It’s all about matcha

NYC: Matchaful - It's all about matcha

These days, I’m trying to drink more matcha and less coffee, and places like Matchaful makes it really easy for me to make the transition.

The cafe on Christopher street is a really quaint spot dedicated to high-quality, organic matcha. The interior has a nice, minimalistic, zen-vibe, and a menu which is both healthy and tempting. The items on the menu vary with the season, and right now, the fall menu is on. I’m really curious about their Shroomy Matcha Chocolate Latte which is a creative concoction of Hikari Ceremonial Matcha, cacao butter, lion’s mane mushroom, Himalayan pink salt, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and housemade oat milk.

Last time I was there, I had an iced matcha and a matcha-donut. The matcha was top-notch, and really refreshing in the heat (it was back in August), and the matcha donut was also nice, even though it was baked, and only the shape and the glazing revealed that it was a donut. I think it might have been better as a pound-cake-style thing instead, or maybe as a cupcake?

And Matchaful? All in all a good place for all things matcha.

I recently discovered this matcha and it is hands down among the very best I’ve tried. The quality really shows from the first sip. It’s incredibly smooth, clean tasting, and completely free of bitterness, which makes it perfect for a frothy usucha, but it also works beautifully in lattes and iced matcha drinks. If you’re picky about your matcha and like it pure, vibrant, and well balanced, this one is absolutely worth trying.
