Guide to Thai Restaurants in New York City

New York has a serious Thai food scene, and we’re not just talking pad thai and green curry. From cozy hole-in-the-wall spots in Queens to stylish Thai-American mashups in the West Village, NYC serves up some of the best Thai food outside Thailand. And it’s not just about heat, though if you’re into spice, you’ll have no problem breaking a sweat. The city is home to regional specialties from Isaan, Northern Thailand, and the south, so whether you're craving fermented sausages, boat noodles, or khao soi, there's a place for that. Of course, like everything else in New York, prices and vibe can vary wildly. Some places feel like a Bangkok night market, with fluorescent lights and plastic stools. Others go full glam, with cocktails and moody lighting. Personally, I like a bit of both. Give me a spot with authentic flavors and decent air conditioning, and I’m happy. In this guide, I’ve rounded up my favorite Thai restaurants in the city, from the ones I always take visiting friends to, to the hidden gems that deserve a little more hype. Come hungry, and maybe bring a friend who isn’t afraid of chili.
