It was raining and I was on my way back to the hotel, but it was Saturday night, so I went inside at Aurora Bar after all. From the outside, it looked like one of those posh, expense account places, but well inside, I found myself in the middle of what most of all felt like a party at a good friend’s house.
The bar is a part of Aurora Restaurant, which is located one stair up, but contrary to many other restaurant bars, Aurora Bar seemed to be doing fine on its own, and most of the other guests that night came in from the street, and not from the restaurant.
The soundtrack also had a life on its own, with a repertoire spanning from Justin Bieber remixes to Eurovision classics, with the interruptions and repeats you would expect when your friend (who’ve had one too many) gains access to Spotify. Suddenly the lights went off, and Édith Piaf’s ”Non, je ne regrette rien” was played at max volume to everyone’s delight.
When I had made it through most of my 4cl Monkey Shoulder whisky I actually considered ordering another round, just because I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place so much, but jetlag got the final word and I went back to bed after a surprisingly pleasant evening.
