I am back in Cambodia, but until the day for my flight, I was not sure whether it would be a good idea, considering the political situation in the country. The opposition leader Sam Rainsy had announced that he would return to Cambodia on November 9th, Cambodia’s Independence Day, and people were worried that it might be causing disturbances and even riots.
Though Rainsy was denied boarding the flight from Paris to Bangkok and even though he is now in Malaysia, most people I know agree that it would probably take a while before he makes it to Cambodia from there.
The first days of my stay have therefore been peaceful, but I have been really busy as there were a lot of things we had to do before the national holidays. Friday and Saturday I went to see Alan James Flux who is the fashion designer behind the brand A.N.D., which is one of the most well-known and well-reputed fair fashion brands in Cambodia. I am super excited to tell you that his designs will soon be available in my shop. We have also agreed that A.N.D will be making some items especially for Mitzie Mee. Cannot wait to show you more!
I also went to see Chantha and Thearny who are the couple that started the social business Angkor Bullet. Together with a team of disabled people, they are transforming old bullet casings into beautiful pieces of jewelry, that I am proud to make available in my shop. On Wednesday I am visiting their workshop again to shoot a video in which Chantha will tell me about his life and what inspired him to make this kind of jewelry.
Last but not least, I have spent a lot of time with Kanary from CWSG and her sweet family, that I am also staying with this time. I have been invited to join them for tasty Khmer food several times, and this afternoon, The Grandma let me shoot a video of her while she cooks a delicious dessert with banana and pumpkin. As soon as I am done with the editing, I will share the recipe with you:)
