Brown Butter is a biscuit-centered café/Kitchen + Bar on Tompkins Ave. in Bed-Stuy. Stephanie had been talking about Brown Butter for quite a while, and according to her, they have the best biscuits in New York City. My expectations were therefore sky-high, when we finally found an afternoon for Brown Butter biscuits to happen.
Stephanie had the breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs & cheese + a bacon add-on, while I had the Biscuit with Chicken and Gravy. The chicken and waffles are also supposed to be really good, but since we were there for the biscuits, biscuits were what we had.
There’s a really cute outdoor patio in the back, so even with some ominous clouds starting to hover above, we opted for the outdoor seating and the cozy ambiance. My biscuit came in a McDonald’s style clamshell box and Stephanie’s sandwich was wrapped in foil-backed paper. I don’t know if it was because they thought we wanted the food to go, or if that’s just how the food at Brown Butter is served. Though while the presentation didn’t exactly wow me, the taste more than made up for it. The biscuit was perfectly flaky and buttery, and the gravy-soaked chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was love at first bite, and I think we’re in for a long-term relationship.
