I walked by Jerrell’s BETR BRGR on my way back home after a night out in the city. As we all know, hunger tends to strike hardest in the wee hours after midnight, so I decided to step inside this bright yellow burger joint that, to my surprise, turned out to be 100% plant-based.
Plant-based burgers can be hit or miss, and when it’s late at night you don’t really want to take any chances. Though when I saw that the burgers at Jerrell’s were made from Impossible Meat, I felt at ease because Impossible Meat burgers are great, and so similar in terms of flavor and texture to the real deal that I don’t think I would be able to tell a real beef burger from an Impossible Meat one.
Jerrell’s menu only features three different kinds of burgers, plus a couple of different shakes and fries. I decided to order the Lil’ BETR, which is the smallest burger on the menu but still of a good size for a late night snack. Jerrell’s has a few chairs and tables outside, but I opted to take my burger home for a late-night feast in the comfort of my bed.
The burger was really good, and not just good in the context of “good for a vegan burger,” but genuinely delicious on the universal meat+meatless burger scale. It was juicy and delightfully messy, just the way a burger should be, in my opinion. I also ordered the Crispy Waffle Fries, and they were equally tasty and still crispy and warm when I was back in my room and ready to dig in. It’s fantastic to see how places like Jerrell’s serve up plant-based food that tastes so good you forget all about meat for the moment, and if you’re looking to go meatless, even if just for a night, I highly recommend giving Jerrell’s a try.
