NYC: Kjun – Korean Cajun Soul Food

Kjun - Korean Cajun Soul Food - New York City Blog

Kjun is a Korean Cajun Soul Food restaurant that Steve stumbled upon yesterday evening while looking for a place to eat after an event in the neighborhood.Korean Cajun Soul Food? Think Green Tomato Kimchi and Gochujang Andouille with Grits. Does it work? We shall see.

The green tomato kimchi was made with crunchy green tomatoes, which worked perfectly as a kimchi vegetable, both in texture and flavor.

The Gochujang Andouille with Grits featured homemade Andouille sausage, cheesy grits, and Korean pear. Steve would have liked a bit more grits and a little less cheese, but he enjoyed the dish, which he expected to be spicy but which turned out to be mild, yet full of flavor.

He ate at the counter, chatting with the staff, and at one point, chef Jae Jung sat down next to him. To finish off the meal, the staff offered a house-made drink, a chocolate chicory cookie, and a probiotic drink. Great people, fun atmosphere, and absolutely delicious food!
