NYC: Pie Crust Cookies at Janie's Life-Changing Baked Goods in West Village

I had noticed this cute little café in West Village called Janie’s Life-changing Baked Goods. In the window, there was a sign mentioning something about pie-crust cookies, which I googled, and found out were cookies made like tiny pies with flaky crust, and filling and all.

That sounded like something I’d want to try, so I went inside to have a closer look. In addition to pie crust cookies, there was also a selection of regular cookies and everything looked delicious, so how was I to choose? I asked the girl behind the counter what she would suggest that I ordered, and she said that I should definitely get one of the Pie Crust Cookies, and that her personal favorite was the one with apple filling, so I gave that one a try. I also got a S’mores cookie, which looked tempting, and since it was a really hot day, I ordered a glass of hibiscus iced tea to wash it all down.

The pie crust cookie was definitely the star. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I really like, and the flavor and texture really captured all the best elements from a pie and a cookie. The S’mores cookie was more traditional, and a bit too sweet for my taste, so I brought most of it back home to eat later, and it’s gone now:)

Fun fact: Later that day, I told Tina about Janie’s Life-changing Baked Goods, and it turned out that Tina is also a big fan and that she has ordered Janie’s pie crust cookies online several times🙂

I was curious about what was so life-changing about Janie’s baked goods, so I did a little research, and it turns out that Janie’s Life-Changing Baked Goods is far more than just a bakery. After grappling with addiction and homelessness in her early twenties, Janie turned to baking as an act of self-care. A $35 handheld mixer sparked a journey that evolved into a flourishing business. Despite never intending to become an entrepreneur, Janie rose to the challenge, fueled by the joy her treats brought to others. She’s now famous for her Pie Crust Cookie which has won number of awards, but what really sets her apart is her commitment to social good. Janie provides second chances through employment, teaches baking to underprivileged youth, and donates generously to her community.

Ninja Air Fryer 4-in-1 Pro
$89.99

I’ve had really good experiences with the Ninja air fryers. They're easy to use, the quality feels solid, and the results are consistently great. I like that you don’t have to fuss around with settings to get good food out of it. Vegetables turn out crisp without drying out, and chicken comes out juicy with a nice golden crust. It’s one of those kitchen gadgets that actually lives up to the hype and ends up being used all the time.

Ninja NC301 CREAMi Ice Cream Maker
$199.95

The Ninja CREAMi is hands down the best ice cream maker I’ve tried. What I really like is the texture. The ice cream comes out so smooth and creamy, better than anything I’ve managed with other machines. It’s also incredibly easy to use: you prep your base, freeze it overnight, and then let the CREAMi do the rest. With several one-touch programs, you can make ice cream, sorbet, gelato, milkshakes, or even smoothie bowls, and the re-spin function lets you make your batch softer if you prefer. You can go all in with decadent gelato, or make lighter, low-sugar or dairy-free versions. You can even add your favorite mix-ins like chocolate, nuts, or fruit to make it your own. It’s a fun, reliable machine that makes experimenting with flavors at home so much more exciting.
