NYC: Swiss fondue at Café Select

Fondue at Cafe Select, New York

In the winter months, the back room at Café Select turns into a fondue room. With just enough space to squeeze in your closest friends, the back room quickly fills up, so a reservation is crucial.

I went with Alex and Sue, and The Three Musketeers quickly decided on the classic Swiss fondue which was served with bread and pickles. It was exquisite! Bread and melted cheese are really all it takes. So simple and yet so incredibly tasty. I also had a glass of Kirschwasser, Switzerland style, but I had forgotten how strong it is. Perfect for a day out in the snowy Alps, but combine it with jetlag, and it will hit you like a hammer.

In addition to the fondue, we also had the zucchini chips, because this is one of the Café Select classics. They’re served with 3 kinds of dipping sauce and one of them is with feta. I’ve tried to recreate the feta dip, but I still haven’t figured out how to get the zucchini chips so crispy and delicious.  So girls and guys, if you’re in New York and craving authentic Swiss fondue (or zucchini chips), Café Select is the place to go.
