Recipe: Seed crackers with caviar and sour cream

Recipe: Hungry Bird Eats Seed crackers with caviar and sour cream

The Hungry Bird Eats Rye + Sea Salt crackers topped with sour cream and caviar provide an ultra-decadent indulgence, perfect for those special occasions and celebrations. True caviar comes from sturgeon and is considered one of the most luxurious and sought-after delicacies in the world. It’s also one of the world’s most expensive treats, so you might want to swap the caviar in this recipe for a more affordable option like salmon roe or other kinds of fish roe.

Caviar is traditionally served with blinis, which are small, round, and thin pancakes originating from Russian and Eastern European cuisine. However, I discovered how delicious caviar is when paired with the Rye + Sea Salt crackers from Hungry Bird Eats. The first time I tried this combination, I was amazed at how the crisp, slightly salty, crackers enhanced the caviar’s delicate taste. The satisfying crunch of the rye cracker provides a perfect contrast to the smooth pearls of caviar, and nowadays these crackers are my go-to caviar pairing.

Ingredients

  • 4 Hungry Bird Eats Rye + Sea Salt Crackers, broken in half to make 8 pieces

  • 3 tablespoons sour cream

  • 1 oz caviar

  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped

  • 1 tablespoon red onion or shallot, finely diced

  • Lemon wedges

Directions

  • Prepare the toppings
  • Lay out the 8 cracker pieces on a serving platter.
  • Spoon a small dollop of sour cream onto each cracker half.
  • Gently place a small portion of the caviar on top of the sour cream. Distribute the caviar evenly among the 8 cracker halves, ensuring each has a small but luxurious amount.
  • Sprinkle a few pieces of finely diced onion or shallot on top of each cracker.
  • Finish with a light sprinkling of chopped chives.
  • Serve with lemon wedges on the side for those who enjoy a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on their caviar. Serve immediately to ensure the crackers stay crisp and the toppings are fresh.
