NYC: Danji – Modern Korean food in Midtown

Danji, Korean restaurant in New York

I love the Korean food at Danji! The 36-seat restaurant is tiny but sleek, and the white brick/wooden interior makes the room appear airy and welcoming.

Different kinds of traditional Korean spoons make up the decoration and accentuates the Asian chic character of the place.

Most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. The meat is free from antibiotics and no overfished fish species will land on your plate at Danji.
The menu items are limited and carefully selected.

Highlights include deep fried tofu with ginger and scallion dressing. It is so delicious and very different from any other tofu dish I’ve had, so even if you don’t like tofu, promise me to give this dish a try, if it’s still on the menu.
Another favorite of mine is the spicy “k.f.c.” Korean Fire Chicken Wings.

They’re sticky and sweet with just the right amount of fire. Prepare to lick your fingers!

The food is served for the table to share, so bring your friends, order a bunch of dishes and discover how stylish and delicious modern Korean cuisine can be.

Even though the menu also has a section of traditional dishes, the reason why you came is the fancy, modern, Korean food. If you’re looking for traditional Korean grub, there are other, cheaper places to go to.

• The restaurant only takes reservations for parties of 6 persons or more, so be prepared to wait for a table.

• Danji has a decent selection of vegetarian dishes and a nice cocktail menu too.

Together with my friend April, I have made a guide to the best Korean restaurants in New York City
