New York: Central Park in a pedicab

When the sun beats down (which it actually did last Sunday), Central Park is a wonderful place to seek refuge in the middle of Manhattan’s concrete jungle. The park is very big, and if you have not been there before, renting a bike is a great way to see a lot of the park in a short while.

If you’re lazy, like Rikke and I, you can of course also take a guided pedicab tour instead. The tours cover most of the park, and you can sit back and relax in your pedicab seat. We were lucky and got a very entertaining guide who, among other stuff, could tell us how to avoid being eaten up by dinosaurs.

We made several short stops among which the Strawberry Fields quiet area, which pays tribute to John Lennon, was my favorite. Strawberry Fields is located in the western part of the park, only a short distance from John Lennon’s home, in front of which, he was shot down on December 8, 1980.

We also stopped in front of a fountain, which we were told was the one featured in the Friends intro,  but a little online research later told us that it was a hoax. The fountain featured in Friends is located in Los Angeles.

Later, we met up for lunch with the other girls, who had rented bikes, and while they arrived all sweaty and red-faced, Rikke and I could take our seats at the table all chilled down.
