湄索的Borderline Collective也提供烹饪班,让你学习如何煮出他们经营的Tea Garden餐厅菜单上的美味佳肴。我在拜访湄索之前没有吃过缅甸的料理,所以对我来说就好像发现了一个全新的世界。我对缅甸料理的第一个印象是它们的辛辣程度比泰式料理少,但对于新鲜富有风味的原料还是拥有同样的偏好。

他们的烹饪班长达半天,并由一趟到湄索的菜市场观光作为开头。Borderline的Eh Soe是我们当天的导游,她说明了当地的农夫如何在一大清早就把他们的香草和蔬菜搬运过来。如果你想确保你所买到的农产品是最新鲜,最好的,那你也必须很早就到那里了。如果你等到晚一点才去,那你想要买的材料也许就卖完了。

Eh Soe 也解释道虽然在湄索里也有一间Tesco,但当地的人还是比较喜欢到市场里买菜,因为,Eh Soe解释说:“在Tesco里,只有一种黄瓜,但在市场里,你可以看到许多小贩在卖黄瓜,所以就会有更多的选择。”

走在市场里的肉类区就像走进了一部恐怖电影似的,有猪头和摇摇晃晃的蟾蜍在卖。还好,Tea Garden是家素食餐厅,所以我们的购物清单上没有肉类。
