I love matcha and drink it both as usucha and as a latte, so when I was offered the chance to try Kazuto Matcha, I was immediately on board.
Kazuto Matcha is a Japanese matcha brand, and their matcha is made from first harvest tea leaves. That’s something you can both see and taste. The color is a deep, clear green, and the powder is incredibly fine and silky. It’s stone ground, and you can really tell when you whisk it. No clumps, no stubborn powder that refuses to dissolve. Just a smooth, even matcha with a beautiful layer of foam on top.
The flavor is mild and rounded with a natural sweetness, and without the bitterness that often takes over in lower quality matcha. There are also subtle cocoa notes that add depth to the classic matcha taste. As usucha, it’s especially good. Soft, balanced, and very easy to drink, even if you usually find matcha a bit too intense.
That said, Kazuto Matcha also works extremely well in a matcha latte. The flavor comes through the milk nicely, and the bright green color makes for a really appealing drink. I’ve tried plenty of matcha powders that either turn bitter or completely lose their character once milk is added, but Kazuto holds up. My matcha latte with Kazuto Matcha is honestly better than many of the ones I’ve been served at cafes.
The matcha is grown in Shizuoka using a special single stem cultivation method, which results in more umami, a more vibrant green color, and higher nutritional value. It’s USDA Organic certified and produced with a lot of respect for both nature and craftsmanship. All in all, a really solid ceremonial grade matcha that I can easily recommend.
I recently discovered this matcha and it is hands down among the very best I’ve tried. The quality really shows from the first sip. It’s incredibly smooth, clean tasting, and completely free of bitterness, which makes it perfect for a frothy usucha, but it also works beautifully in lattes and iced matcha drinks. If you’re picky about your matcha and like it pure, vibrant, and well balanced, this one is absolutely worth trying.
