Uetliberg is Zurich’s very own local mountain. It’s only 870m high, which isn’t so much after Swiss standards, but for someone like me, who is used to the flat terrain in Denmark, this is still quite impressive. The S10 train will take you from the central station and almost all the way to the top, Uto Kulm, so there’s really no excuse for not visiting Uetliberg.
From Uetliberg station, it’s only a 10-minute walk to the top, so this is mountain hiking for the lazy ones. Though if you want a more challenging experience, you can also hike all the way up, or explore some of the trails around the mountain.
At the top of Uetliberg, there’s an observation tower, which for 2CHF allows you to get an additional 30m up in the air. From the tower, you have a gorgeous, unobstructed 360° view of Zurich and the surrounding area, and it’s no doubt money well spent.
There’s also a hotel on the top, so when I was done snapping pictures of Zurich from the tower, I went to the hotel restaurant’s outdoor terrace to have lunch. They had a special 2-course lunch deal including a vegetarian option, which I went for. I don’t remember how much I paid, but it was cheaper than what I had expected, considering the location, and that the meal also came with a flirting waiter, free of charge:)
