Octave is the rooftop bar at the Marriott Hotel in the chic Thonglor neighborhood. It’s hugely popular with Bangkok’s expat crowd, and if you’re not there right when they open at 5pm, getting a good spot for sunset can be tricky.
You start in the lobby, where you take the elevator to the 45th floor. From there, another elevator takes you up to the 48th floor. To reach the actual rooftop and the best views, you then walk up the stairs to what is essentially the 49th floor.
One of the things I really like about Octave is that it attracts a crowd beyond the usual tourist scene, which gives the place a laid back yet stylish atmosphere. The views are completely unobstructed and genuinely spectacular, so bring your camera, you won’t be the only one taking photos.
Octave is one of my favorite bars in Bangkok, so when Rikke and I happened to be in the city at the same time, a visit was non negotiable. Rikke and I go way back to our days as cabin crew for a Danish airline, and we’ve traveled a lot together over the years. As you can see in the video below, we loved the view just as much as the drinks.
