Midori Sushi – Tokyo Restaurants

Midori Sushi is one of my favorites for good, affordable sushi in Tokyo. The chain has several outlets throughout the city, but the most popular branches are the one in Ginza and the one in Shibuya featured here.

Most lunch sets start at 2000JPY and include tourist favorites such as salmon and tuna, but also more exotic bites such as sea urchin and baby eels find their way to the menu, so unless you’re a sushi omnivore, make sure you read the menu carefully, before ordering. You can also order sushi a la carte and pick whatever you like, but the set meals are a better deal.

The fish is so fresh that it hurts and you really get some value for money. My favorite nigiri is fatty tuna (o-toro), which is a tender cut of tuna that melts in your mouth, and the one they serve at Midori is usually top notch.

Midori Sushi is incredibly popular, and to avoid waiting for too long, I recommend that you get there at least 30 minutes before the restaurant opens.

Proceed to the automated queuing system and the touch screen next to the restaurant entrance and take a number. You can choose what kind of seating you prefer, and whether you would mind sharing a table with others. This is your number in the line and when the restaurant opens and start announcing the numbers, you have to be alert and present, in order not to miss your slot. There’s seating for around 60 persons at a time, so even though the line seems long, it’s usually not that bad, if you get there early.

• Midori Sushi is located on the 4th floor at the end of the corridor, which leads from East mall to West Mall in Shibuya Mark City.

• Midori Sushi attracts a lot of tourists and the menu is also available in English.

• You’re kindly asked not to line up outside the restaurant. Take your number and wait in the waiting area along the side of the corridor.

Welcome to my Tokyo blog. Tokyo is one of those cities I never get tired of. I've been back many times over the years, and every visit leaves me with a longer list of places I want to try next time. For me, Tokyo has always been about the food. It's the city where I'll happily get up early for a sushi breakfast, where some of the best meals are served at tiny ramen counters with barely enough seats for a handful of people, and where I can spend hours wandering from one café to the next without any real plan. What keeps drawing me back, though, is the atmosphere. Tokyo somehow manages to feel calm and intense at the same time. You can stroll through quiet residential streets lined with small shops and neighborhood cafés, then suddenly find yourself in the middle of Shibuya, surrounded by flashing signs, crowds, and nonstop energy. Those contrasts are part of what makes the city so special, and no matter how often I visit, I always come across somewhere new. On my Tokyo blog, I've gathered the places I've genuinely enjoyed. Restaurants I'd recommend to friends, cafés worth making a detour for, neighborhoods I love exploring, and hotels I'd stay at again. Whether you're planning your first trip to Tokyo or your fifth, I hope you'll find plenty of inspiration, along with practical tips to help you make the most of your visit.
