Last month a friend and I should have traveled to Zurich together, but due to circumstances I’ll not go any further into, she had to cancel with a very short notice. What should have been a girls’ trip to Zurich therefore ended up becoming yet another solo trip for me.
I stayed at Glockenhof, which is a nice hotel close to Bahnhofstrasse. My room was airy and bright and more spacious than any other hotel I’ve stayed at in Zurich. My room was cleaned twice a day, and when I got back in the evening, there was chocolate waiting for me on my pillow.
The breakfast buffet was included in the room rate, and it was so much better than what you would expect for a complimentary breakfast. It was still summer in Zurich, so I would sit outside in the beautiful courtyard and enjoy the morning sun and a cup of tea, while trying to decide whether to have another round of Bircher muesli or a Schoggi Gipfeli. Most of the days, I had both.
The bathroom was sleek and stylish, but there was this big window between the bathroom and the rest of the room. I’ve seen this arrangement at other hotels too, and while I understand it makes the room seem bigger and brighter, I’m not sure I’m a fan. Even though there’s a curtain, I still feel that everybody else in the room can see what I’m doing, and I can only imagine how awkward it would be, even if you’re traveling with really close friends. Regarding the complimentary amenities, I always forget my toothbrush, so I would have liked to trade in the cotton buds and the shower cap for a toothbrush and some Colgate, but otherwise, I had everything I needed in the room.
Glockenhof is conveniently located right in the heart of Zurich, and you are close to most of the sights and attractions. I didn’t even buy a Zurich card that time, because everything I had planned to see was within walking distance. I really liked the hotel, and as I’m writing this post, I have just checked in at Glockenhof again for what will be my third stay at the hotel.
