Domlei is a Phnom Penh based, socially responsible, women’s and kids’ clothing and accessories brand, founded by designer and photographer, Saron. Domlei is particularly known for beautiful, contemporary, designs, and customized, block print applied on high quality upcycled fabric, so-called dead stock, which is leftover fabric from the garment factories in Cambodia). For her kids’ clothing line, Saron also sources soft, handwoven cotton fabric from weavers in rural parts of the country.
In Cambodia, factory jobs often mean long hours, a hectic work environment, and long commutes, making it difficult to combine raising a family with factory employment. At Domlei, the artisans can choose to work from home, so they can have more time with their kids, while generating an income for the family.
Domlei supports a range of local projects aimed at giving back to the communities, creating opportunities and empowering women. Saron is originally from a small village in the countryside, and she is particularly passionate about supporting the early education of children in rural parts of the country, where most of the weavers that Domlei works with are located. Domlei helps providing for schoolbooks, stationaries, and uniforms, and also arranges reading clubs for the children to encourage learning and education, which will eventually benefit the entire community.
