On our way back from Corralejo, we stopped at a supermarket, Mercadona, to shop for the in-room tapas dinner, we had planned for the night. I love visiting grocery stores abroad and I can spend hours browsing the shelves, while Sister T is more goal oriented, and just wants to get what we came for, and then leave. It is the other way around, when we are in a clothing store, because in those setting, I am the one without any patience.
We stuffed our shopping basket with ham, pâté, and cheese, before proceeding to the wine section. The wine was so cheap that Sister T got skeptical. “It must be fake”, she said “I’d bet there’s no alcohol in it”. But the EUR2 bottle of cava was the real deal, with alcohol and all, so we grabbed as much we could carry, and drove back to our hotel.
We borrowed plates and cutlery from the hotel restaurant and then we were ready for tapas and Netflix. Sister T loves everything reality tv and right now, she is watching a show called Bling Empire, which is about a group of super rich Asians in LA. On our Fuerteventura trip, I got hooked too, and now I can’t stop watching. I think Kelly seems to be the nicest of the persons in the show, but I also like Anna and her supercool, eccentric, weirdness.
Our grocery store tapas dinner was so good! Since we had both had a little too much of the local goat cheese at the beginning of our trip, we had deliberately picked a cow’s milk cheese platter in the store. We had regular, non-fancy, serrano but also small bits of jamón ibérico, which is the delicious, expensive, Spanish gourmet ham from the Iberian pig. Olives, ham, cheese, bread and cava, that’s really all you need for a good night in.
