Midori Sushi – Tokyo Restaurants

Midori Sushi is one of my favorites for good, affordable sushi in Tokyo. The chain has several outlets throughout the city, but the most popular branches are the one in Ginza and the one in Shibuya featured here.

Most lunch sets start at 2000JPY and include tourist favorites such as salmon and tuna, but also more exotic bites such as sea urchin and baby eels find their way to the menu, so unless you’re a sushi omnivore, make sure you read the menu carefully, before ordering. You can also order sushi a la carte and pick whatever you like, but the set meals are a better deal.

The fish is so fresh that it hurts and you really get some value for money. My favorite nigiri is fatty tuna (o-toro), which is a tender cut of tuna that melts in your mouth, and the one they serve at Midori is usually top notch.

Midori Sushi is incredibly popular, and to avoid waiting for too long, I recommend that you get there at least 30 minutes before the restaurant opens.

Proceed to the automated queuing system and the touch screen next to the restaurant entrance and take a number. You can choose what kind of seating you prefer, and whether you would mind sharing a table with others. This is your number in the line and when the restaurant opens and start announcing the numbers, you have to be alert and present, in order not to miss your slot. There’s seating for around 60 persons at a time, so even though the line seems long, it’s usually not that bad, if you get there early.

• Midori Sushi is located on the 4th floor at the end of the corridor, which leads from East mall to West Mall in Shibuya Mark City.

• Midori Sushi attracts a lot of tourists and the menu is also available in English.

• You’re kindly asked not to line up outside the restaurant. Take your number and wait in the waiting area along the side of the corridor.

Mitzie Mee - Sanne

Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in Asia, and a place I keep coming back to. It’s the kind of city that never feels finished. There’s always a new restaurant to try, a different neighborhood to explore, another tiny café tucked away on a side street. What I love most is the mix of modern and traditional. You can start your day at a centuries old temple and end it in a sleek high rise with floor to ceiling views. In between, there’s ramen in Shinjuku, sushi in Ginza, yakitori in a narrow alley, and pastries in Daikanyama that rival anything in Paris.Tokyo is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own vibe, and I plan most of my days around what and where to eat next. I blog about my favorite restaurants, cafes, markets, and areas to explore. The places I go back to, and the ones I think you shouldn’t miss.
