Phnom Penh: Vegan lunch at Masala Dosa Street Kitchen

When I am seeing Alan and Mr. Pheap from A.N.D., we often meet over vegan food. None of us are vegans, but the (few) plant-based restaurants in Phnom Penh are very nice and provides excellent alternatives to the city’s carnivore lunch spots.

Masala Dosa Street Kitchen is an Indian vegan restaurant specializing in dosa (Indian rice crepes) with all kinds of sweet and savory fillings. They also have a small, but tempting, selection of other vegan dishes as well as a daily lunch special, and of course lassi and chai.

My main course was a delicious dosa with a filling of mushrooms in a creamy sauce, while Mr. Pheap and Alan both had a rice dish with vegetables, which was the daily special. For dessert we had dosas with chocolate sauce, and I also had a cup of masala chai, which is a sweet and spicy Indian milk tea. Before moving to Dubai, I had never heard about Indian chai, but now it has become one of my favorite types of tea. At Masala Dosa they make the chai with plant milk, but the flavor was still rich and smooth, like the cow’s milk chai I usually have in Dubai.

Mitzie Mee - Sanne

Welcome to my Phnom Penh Blog. I have been to Phnom Penh many times over the years. It’s a fantastic city with so much to offer, even though at first glance it can seem noisy and slightly chaotic. It’s still a very affordable place to visit, and you can eat incredibly well for next to nothing. I’ve made many good friends in Phnom Penh, and they’ve shown me all the spots I never would have found on my own. Here on the blog, I write about food and restaurants, along with the experiences you shouldn’t miss when you visit Phnom Penh.
