You have some of the best views of the wild and crazy Shibuya Crossing from the 2nd floor at Starbucks, but to my great surprise, you’re not allowed to take photos. This was explained to me by the Starbucks staff in a very firm, and not very Japanese way.
Considering that around 99% of the people visiting this particular Starbucks branch are tourists, and considering that most of them are probably there to enjoy the view AND take photos, then it’s hard to understand why they don’t put up a sign stating that this is not allowed.
This would certainly be a much more effective way to spread the message, than having a Starbucks employee/wannabe cop with arms crossed jumping at anyone, who dares to sneak out a Canon camera.
Such signs could most desirably be located at the entrance, so people had the information about the photo ban at hand before deciding whether to spend their yens on an overpriced Caramel Macchiato. Luckily I managed to take some pictures before the angry lady in the green apron came after me …
