Hong Kong: Causeway Bay – The place to stay

Hong Kong, Causeway Bay

The first time I visited Hong Kong, I was quite sure that I would never go back. I stayed in an awful part of Tsim Sha Tsui, and spent the last couple of days, counting the hours until my flight to Tokyo. Despite this, AC managed to convince me to give Hong Kong a second try, and last year I visited Hong Kong together with her. We stayed in Central, close to the party district Lan Kwai Fong, with an abundance of nice bars and restaurants at our doorstep. It completely changed my view of Hong Kong, and I’ve been eager to go back since then.

A couple of weeks ago, I visited Hong Kong for the third time. This time I stayed in Causeway Bay, which is also on Hong Kong Island, but a little more east than Central. While Central seemed to have a lot of expats, Causeway Bay seemed more local and very young and chic. The area reminded me of some of the trendy areas in Tokyo, so I wasn’t surprised, when I found a branch of the Japanese mall Laforet, which some of you might recognize from Harajuku. The mall is full of small shops selling all the newest items from Korea and Japan, and even though they primarily target a younger and skinnier clientele (I wouldn’t be able to squeeze into most of their stuff, even if my life depended on it) it’s still fun to have a look at the trends, which might hit the rest of the world in a season or two.

Hong Kong Hotels
Hotels in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of those cities that hits you right away—with its neon lights, narrow alleys, glossy malls, and street food that somehow tastes even better at 2am. And while hotel rooms here tend to be on the smaller side (space is a luxury!), they more than make up for it in location, views, and clever design.

Whether you're staying in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, or somewhere a bit more local like Sheung Wan or Sai Ying Pun, there’s no shortage of great places to stay. Some come with rooftop pools, some with harbor views, and some just put you right in the middle of the action—which, in Hong Kong, is exactly where you want to be.

Here’s a link to check out hotels in Hong Kong—hope you find a spot that makes you fall in love with the city like I did.
