Bangkok: Din Tai Fung – Xiao Long Bao in Central World

Din Tai Fung, Bangkok

I’ve never really understood all the recent years’ dumpling hype, but then AC took me to the Taiwanese restaurant Din Tai Fung in Los Angeles this summer, and I got completely hooked on xiao long bao (soup dumplings), which is Din Tai Fung’s world famous specialty.

When I was in Thailand with my parents and my sister in October, I found out by chance that there was a Din Tai Fung in the CentralWorld mall, so that day the papaya salad and tom yum kung soup had to step back for heaps of soup dumplings. Some of the Din Tai Fung restaurants in Asia had a Michelin star in the past, but if I could decide, I would give them three stars just for the soup dumplings.

According to people in the know, the other items on the menu are also supposed to be quite outstanding, so we additionally ordered the fried pork (I had that in LA too) and the hot and sour soup. Both dishes were tasty, but not in that ABSOLUTELY FABULICIOUS way that the soup dumplings were, so if you are visiting Din Tai Fung for the first time, I would recommend that you just stick to the soup dumplings.
