Saphan Pla Market is the night market on the Hua Hin Fishing Pier, and if you’re looking for something that feels a bit more local and less touristy than the main night market in town, this is where you want to go. It’s open in the evenings from Thursday to Sunday, and the focus is very much on food. Stalls line the entire pier, one after the other, and there’s a lot of really good food to choose from.
My favorite is a small stall that sells whole salt-crusted fish grilled over charcoal. The fish is served with rice noodles, fresh herbs, lettuce leaves, and two different sauces, so you can make your own wraps at the table. It’s simple, but really delicious, and if you haven’t tried fish served this way before, this is a great place to do it.
At the end of the pier, there are tables and chairs and a small bar where you can buy drinks. There’s often live music, and even though the quality of the performances varies quite a lot, it adds to the atmosphere and makes people stay a little longer and enjoy the evening.
Here are my tips if you’re visiting Saphan Pla Night Market
Bring cash
Most stalls only accept cash, so make sure you have small bills.
Restrooms
There are restrooms at the entrance to the pier, and it costs a few baht to use them. If you’re sitting all the way at the end, you can actually get a free ride back on a small motorbike.
Clean up after yourself
There are large trash bins along the pier, and you’re expected to clear your own table.
Bring hand sanitizer or wet wipes
It’s street food, and a lot of it is eaten with your hands, so it’s nice to have something to clean up with before and after.
Tip the musicians
If there’s live music, it’s good etiquette to leave a small tip for the musicians. It helps keep the atmosphere going.
Choose your timing
Friday and Saturday are the busiest days. If you want a more relaxed vibe, go on Thursday or Sunday.
Find the right place to sit
There are tables and chairs along the entire pier, but it’s nicest to sit at the very end. The view is better, and that’s also where the atmosphere peaks, especially when there’s music.
