Recipe: Baked Camembert with Savory Orange Marmalade

Recipe: Baked Camembert with savory jam

Last summer, I got together with Tina from Hungry Birds Eats and Rebecca from Spread-mmms for some wine and cheese. We had a nice camembert from Murray’s Cheese sitting in the kitchen, so we thought, why not bake it? For baked camembert, I usually go for the classic combo of honey and nuts, but this time, we decided to make it with Rebecca’s savory orange jam. So we popped the camembert in the oven and then topped it with Rebecca’s savory orange marmalade, serving it with Tina’s crackers on the side for dipping. It was absolutely delicious, one of those spontaneous ideas that just turned out great.

Notes

Try to find one of those camemberts that comes in a wooden box. If your camembert does not come in a box, you can bake it in a small oven-proof dish or wrapped in parchment paper.

In the photos for this recipe, I’m using Spread-mmms Savory Orange Marmalade but you can use any sweet or savory marmalade of your choice.

Depending on which flavors you’re after, you can also add a drizzle of honey, a couple of crushed garlic cloves, fresh herbs, or nuts.

Serve the camembert with Hungry Bird Eats multi-seed crackers or baguette on the side, so you can easily scoop up all that delicious melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 camembert wheel

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons jam (sweet or savory)

  • Fresh herbs such as thyme, oregano or rosemary.

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C)
  • If the camembert comes in a wooden box, remove any plastic or paper packaging and place the cheese back into the base of the box. If your camembert does not come in a box, you can bake it in a small oven-proof dish or wrapped in parchment paper.
  • With a sharp knife, score the top of the camembert in a crisscross pattern, allowing the herbs to infuse the cheese.
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the scored camembert. Sprinkle with the fresh herbs.
  • Place the camembert (in its box or a dish) on a baking sheet to catch any melting cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until it becomes gooey and slightly golden.
  • Spread the marmalade evenly over the camembert.
  • Serve immediately along with crackers or baguette.

Ninja Air Fryer
$105.99

I’ve had really good experiences with the Ninja air fryers. They're easy to use, the quality feels solid, and the results are consistently great. I like that you don’t have to fuss around with settings to get good food out of it. Vegetables turn out crisp without drying out, and chicken comes out juicy with a nice golden crust. It’s one of those kitchen gadgets that actually lives up to the hype and ends up being used all the time.

Caraway Nonstick Ceramic Frying Pan (2.7 qt, 10.5")
$115.00

Caraway recently launched on Amazon, and their cookware is as pretty as it is practical. The Caraway 10.5" Nonstick Ceramic Frying Pan is one of those pieces you’ll find yourself reaching for all the time, whether it’s for eggs, sautéed veggies, or pancakes on the weekend. I especially love it in Perracotta, which adds such a nice pop of color in the kitchen.

The naturally non-stick surface means you can cook with less oil or butter, and cleanup is quick with just a wipe or light wash. Like all of Caraway’s cookware, the pan is free from PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, lead, and cadmium, so you don’t have to worry about toxins sneaking into your food.

It works on all stovetops, gas, electric, and induction, and it’s oven-safe up to 550ºF, which makes it super versatile. Durable, easy to use, and so good-looking, this is a pan that really makes everyday cooking feel a little more special.
