Breakfast in the rice fields, Plataran, Ubud Blog

One morning, the staff at Plataran had arranged a picnic breakfast out in the rice fields at sunrise. A table was set with a delicious breakfast, along with coffee, juice, and fresh fruit. We could choose between an Indonesian or a Western breakfast, and we both went with the Indonesian option. Steve had mie goreng, a traditional Indonesian fried noodle dish, while I had nasi goreng, Indonesia’s famous fried rice. We also had a delicious noodle soup with egg and chicken.

It was such a lovely place to spend the morning. The hotel’s guinea fowl stood on the path nearby, keeping a curious eye on us, but otherwise the only sounds were birdsong and the rustling of the rice fields in the breeze.

After breakfast, we sat and watched the sun come up as the light slowly changed and the rice fields turned golden in the morning sun. It was incredibly beautiful, and I honestly can’t imagine a better way to start the day.

Another wonderful morning in Bali.

Want to know what’s going on beyond the blog? My newsletter is where I share a more personal side of my life, the trips I’m planning, the recipes I’m cooking, and the everyday moments that don’t always make it to the blog. Mitzie Mee - Sanne

Bali has a way of getting under your skin in the best possible way. One moment you’re lounging on a sun-drenched beach with a coconut in hand, and the next you’re surrounded by jungle and incense in Ubud, wondering if you should just stay forever (I’ve considered it more than once). This blog is a mix of both: beach life and rice fields, poolside breakfasts and warung lunches, trendy restaurants and hidden little spots I stumbled upon by accident. I’ll tell you where I’ve been staying, what I’ve been eating, and the places I’d go back to in a heartbeat. If you’re planning a trip, or just in the mood for a little wanderlust, here’s my Bali, one bite, one beach, one Bintang at a time.
