WTF Bar and Gallery in Bangkok

WTF - Bangkok

Wonder where Bangkok’s artsy hipster crowd is hiding? Well look no further. WTF is the place to go for delicious drinks, tasty bar food and art exhibitions. Yes, you heard me correctly. The 2nd and 3rd floor of WTF is an art gallery showcasing the work of local artists. This has proven to be a successful combo and WTF is a true nightlife darling among those in the know.

Even though WTF is popular among both Thais and expats with a sense of style and a taste for well-mixed, reasonably priced drinks, the bar has managed to stay under the tourist radar, so the vibe of the place is very local-chic, without trying too hard.

When I visited WTF with my friend AC, we just wanted to grab a quick drink before heading for Opposite Mess Hall (now closed), but we ended up spending most of our evening at WTF. I don’t remember the kind of music they played when I was there, but it was not too loud and allowed for uninterrupted conversation.

WTF is different from most other bars I’ve visited in Bangkok, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what gives WTF that je-ne-sais-quoi. Perhaps it’s the art gallery, perhaps it’s the clientele, I don’t know, but it’s a really nice place, and you shouldn’t miss it.

WTF is easily accessible, located down a narrow alley just a short walk from the Thong Lo BTS station. The map below is slightly incorrect, as it doesn’t really picture how Sukhumvit Soi 51 splits up in two smaller alleys. Take the narrowest one to the left and you’ll see WTF almost immediately.

• I’ve been told that WTF stands for Wonderful Thai Friendship, but you already guessed that, right?

• Most cocktails are 200-320THB
