Bangkok: Galleria 10 – Hotel Change

Galleria 10, Bangkok hotel

After a long but comfortable flight, I arrived in Bangkok this morning. I knew my suitcase was too big to fit in the trunks of the standard taxis, and I didn’t want to take one of the expensive big cabs, so I took the airport train followed by a transfer to the Skytrain and arrived one hour later at the hotel, which I had booked in advance.

The check-in went smoothly, and I was just in the middle of picturing myself splashing around in the stylish infinity pool, when reality hit me, and I realized that the location of the hotel was quite a disaster.

No street food stalls, no massage salons no anything really, except for a couple of very corporate looking buildings and people. I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t that bad. There was a Skytrain station right next to the hotel, so we would be able to go somewhere more lively in just a couple of minutes.

No luck. What I love the most about Bangkok is the 24/7 vibrant atmosphere, such as the comfort of knowing that if I’m craving strawberry Fanta at 23:00, I can just go to the Family Mart around the corner and buy myself one, and it felt a bit..meh, not being able to do that from the hotel I was supposed to be staying at for the next 8 nights.

So I went down in the reception and cancelled the booking. They charged me for the first night ouch and I had to carry my giant suitcase up and down the stairs for another Skytrain ride double-ouch, to get to the new hotel, but now I’m here, and it’s absolutely perfect. The new hotel is called Galleria 10, and except for some problems with my booking figuring as a double-booking in their system, and the receptionists threatening to double-charge my card every time I walk by the front desk, my stay has been a very pleasant experience so far.
