Las Vegas: Ramen and Recovery – Lunch at Momofuku

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne April 28, 2025
Momofuku Las Vegas

After a night out in Vegas, some people crave fast food, but for me, ramen is the ultimate hangover fix. That’s how Tina and I ended up at Momofuku inside The Cosmopolitan around noon on a Friday. Most of the guests looked like they had already had a full night’s sleep and a green juice, while we were just hoping a good meal would set us straight again.

Momofuku has a lot of tempting dishes on the menu, but when you’re tired and a little worn out, noodles are the way to go. I ordered the Shoyu Pork Ramen, and it was exactly what I needed. The broth was richer and a bit cloudier than the usual clear shoyu broth, packed with deep, savory flavors and plenty of umami. The noodles had that nice springy bite, and the pork was tender and flavorful without feeling too heavy.

Tina chose the Ginger Scallion Noodles, which is a dry noodle bowl (no broth) topped with pickled shiitake mushrooms, wakame, and cucumber. A little lighter than the ramen, but still full of flavor, with a fresh kick from the scallions and ginger.

I know I’ve already said it, but the noodles at Momofuku really are worth it. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or rolling in after a long night on the Strip, you can’t go wrong with one of their noodle dishes.

Bring a taste of Momofuku into your own kitchen with these easy-to-make, restaurant-grade noodles. Each pack comes with premium noodles and a flavorful sauce, so you’re just minutes away from an incredible meal. I love dressing mine up with a fried egg, some bok choy, and a spoonful of chili crisp for an effortless, delicious lunch or dinner.

Las Vegas: Breakfast at Hash House A Go Go – Farm Benedict

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne December 23, 2024
Farm Benedict, Hash House A Go Go, The Linq, Las Vegas

My first meal in Vegas? A Farm Benedict with salmon at Hash House A Go Go. I had heard a lot about this restaurant, which is renowned for full-size breakfast dishes, and if bigger means better, then you’ve come to the right place.

My portion was gigantic/enormous/humongous even for Hash House A Go Go, so when my plate arrived, heads were turning, and the guy next to me at the counter even asked, if he could take a picture of my food. “Of course, go ahead” I said, before I started what felt like my own version of Girl vs. Food. This time food won, and I only managed to finish what seemed like less than one tenth of the dish.

I liked the sauce on top a lot and the eggs were also perfect, but all the stuff underneath wasn’t really for me. The mash weighed down the dish and made the biscuit soggy and pasty, and I found the chili cream a bit too overwhelming and misplaced, but it didn’t really matter, as the eggs and sauce along with the salmon was more than enough to satiate me.

The people working there were really great, and I liked how they joked with each other and the customers. As the line in front of the restaurant built up, they started selling drinks to the people waiting, which I think was an excellent way to make the waiting time more bearable.

Hash House A Go Go is located inside The Linq. If you’ve been to Vegas before, you’ll probably remember this hotel as The Quad or Imperial Palace. I’ve stayed there once and wasn’t impressed. Though the new sleek new look of the place, combined with the High Roller observation wheel and many new stores and restaurants seems to be attracting another, much nicer crowd. The room rates are still among the cheapest on The Strip and the location is top notch, so The Linq is definitely a place I would consider booking in the future.

Las Vegas: Best Friend – Korean-Mexican Restaurant at Park MGM

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne September 8, 2024
Las Vegas: Best Friend - Korean-Mexican Restaurant at Park MGM

While I was waiting for Tina to fly in, I went for dinner at Best Friend, which is a hip Korean-Mexican restaurant by celebrity chef Roy Choi.

When you walk in, you first enter a section that looks like a retro bodega/convenience store with shelves stocked with nostalgic snacks, drinks, and colorful products, setting a casual and playful tone.

Inside the main dining area, the decor has more of a party vibe and the mix of street art, murals, and funky lighting gives the space a cool, urban vibe.

The food is really good, and Best Friend feels like party on a Saturday night, so even though it was just me, myself & I, and even though it wasn’t Saturday, I had a great time at my seat in the bar, chatting along with the bartenders, and drinking frosé. Don’t miss the Street Corn!

Las Vegas: Late dinner at Tao

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne March 28, 2023
Las Vegas: Late dinner at Tao

Tina was on another flight than me, so she didn’t arrive until late in the evening. To kick off our night out, Vegas-style, I had prepared a giant daiquiri from Fat Tuesday as a welcome drink for both of us. We both sipped on it while getting ready, but that drink is gigantic, and it seemed like it hardly went down at all! By the time we headed out to grab an Uber to Tao, we still had almost half of the drink left.

We had booked a table for late dinner at Tao, which is a true Vegas classic. The restaurant has a great party vibe, and on the menu, you’ll find a bunch of Asian-inspired small plate that are perfect for a night out. When we sat down, the kitchen was just about to close, so we quickly ordered the tuna tartare on crispy rice and a few other rolls. I had eaten at Best Friend earlier in the evening, and Tina wasn’t very hungry either, but last minute, we decided to also get the Lobster Wontons with Shiitake Ginger Broth. It turned out to be an amazing dish, and we immediately regretted that we only ordered one serving, but nothing to do about it, as the kitchen was closed. If you are dining at Tao, make sure to order the Lobster Wontons.

After dinner, we went to the nightclub at Tao, which is right next door. If you’ve eaten at the restaurant, you don’t have to wait in line, which is a nice perk, and just like in New York, I think many people dine at Tao in Vegas to gain easier access to the nightclub.

Though in Vegas, I actually prefer the restaurant at Tao over the nightclub. Both places have the same party vibe, but at the restaurant, you can sit down and enjoy your well-crafted cocktails and talk with your friend, while at the nightclub, the music is loud, and you’ll have to stand up all night, unless you pay for a table.

Tao had a ladies’ night when we were there, so there were free drinks for the ladies – always a plus! Tina wanted to stay longer, but I convinced her to go to Hakkasan at MGM instead, and we stayed there until the early morning hours.

Las Vegas: Lining up for Eggslut

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne March 15, 2023
Eggslut at the Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas

I usually say that I’m too old to bother standing in line, whether it’s for restaurants or for clubbing, but in Vegas, I’ll make an exception, and that exception is for Eggslut at The Cosmopolitan. Eggslut started as a small shop at Grand Central Market in Los Angeles, but their super tasty, Insta-worthy egg dishes, quickly became hugely popular, and today, Eggslut can be found at a number of locations in the US and abroad.

I first visited Eggslut many years ago in Los Angeles, and I fell in love with the Slut, which is one of Eggslut’s most famous dishes. The Slut is a coddled egg on top of a base of potato purée, served in a mason jar, and sprinkled with chives and gray salt. You get three slices of baguette on the side, which you use to scoop up the egg-potato purée mixture, and no, it’s not enough, and yes, you’d wish they would serve the Slut with more bread.

The Slut is a really simple dish, but it tastes fantastic and it is just what I’m craving in the morning after a night out. If you ask me, it’s the perfect hangover food, and judging from the line of people lining up outside the Vegas branch around breakfast/brunch time, I’m not the only one to think so. The line can be really long, especially on weekends, and it can take an hour or more to get to the counter and place your order. Though it’s worth trying, at least once, when you’re in Vegas. There’s almost something ritualistic about standing in the Eggslut line with a bunch of other zombies, who were also up late last night, and who also didn’t care too much about showering or brushing their teeth, before stumbling down to Eggslut for a much needed egg fix.

What should you order? Eggslut is mainly known for the Slut, but the sandwiches are also popular. If you order the Slut, be aware that it’s not a particularly large portion. If you’re hungry, I would recommend to either order two Sluts or maybe add a sandwich on the side.

Absinthe – My first Vegas Show

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne February 21, 2023
Absinthe - My first Vegas Show - Las Vegas Blog

Considering how many times I’ve visited Las Vegas, it’s actually strange that I had never seen a show before. But, truth be told, I was always too busy hitting up the city’s famous bars and restaurants to even think about taking in a show. Though when Tina and I were in Vegas, our flight back to New York was early Sunday morning, so we had to look for an alternative to our usual Saturday night dinner + clubbing routine.

A friend recommended that we went to watch Absinthe, and since we both remembered hearing a lot of nice things about the famous Spiegelworld show, we decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, it was a wonderful experience.

We had planned going for dinner before the show, but our afternoon nap had turned into a marathon sleep, so we were running late, and our dinner ended up being shawarma at the food court at Caesars Palace before rushing to the circus tent, where the show was taking place.

The dimly lit space was decorated with vintage posters and chandeliers, creating a whimsical atmosphere that was perfect for the show. I won’t reveal too much in case you haven’t seen the show, but Absinthe is not your average Vegas show, and I was quickly caught up in the excitement of the evening. The show was funny, raunchy, and full of incredible stunts and acrobatics. From the moment the performers took the stage, I was on the edge of my seat, completely captivated by their skill and daring. Some of the performances were so bold and daring that I had to close my eyes because I was scared the artists would fall and get hurt. From aerial acts to contortionists, and even a roller-skating duo, the show was such an impressive display of strength, grace, and skill.

So was it worth the money? Definitely yes! I have been raving about Absinthe ever since we came back, and I regret that it took me so long, before I finally went to watch a Vegas show (ok, I’ve seen Chippendales and Thunder from Down Under, but I’m not sure they count..). If you go to Vegas, make sure to go see a show, and if you’re not sure which show to watch, I can definitely recommend Absinthe. The venue is fantastic, the performers are incredible, and the show itself is one of the most exciting and memorable experiences I’ve had in Vegas.

Las Vegas: Ants and Clouds at China Poblano

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne November 17, 2018
Ants Climbing A Tree at China Poblano, Las Vegas

It’s no secret that I’ve always been a fan of China Poblano and their irresistible mix of all the best from Mexico and China. I have previously blogged about the Mexican part of the menu, but the Chinese food is also really good. The dim sum is a safe bet, but the noodle dishes is where China Poblano really shines.

Las Vegas: The National Atomic Testing Museum

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne November 2, 2016
The National Atomic Testing Museum, Las Vegas

The National Atomic Testing Museum is all about the Nevada nuclear testing site active for almost 4 decades, from the 1950’s and beyond. The testing site was located just a short drive outside Las Vegas and the mushroom clouds, which could be viewed from Downtown Las Vegas, used to be a major tourist attraction (!).

The spirit of the museum is very pro-nuclear, but the reasoning doesn’t go much further than “if we hadn’t done it, we would all be dead by now and the world would be run by communists”. Furthermore, some people may find the theme park lingo and excessive sound effects slightly inappropriate, considering the severity of the subject. However, that doesn’t change the fact that the museum is an impressive source of knowledge. You will find everything you need to know about the history of nuclear weapons testing in the US at this place.

It was interesting to see the actual tools used to assess the radiation level and calculate the risk of nuclear downfall based on current weather conditions, and the movie theater showing actual testing of the weapons sent shivers down my spine. The timeline with the plotting of different nuclear testing events throughout the years alongside other major happenings was also both informative and thought-provoking. However, the souvenir shop at the entrance, selling posters of pin-ups wearing nothing else than mushroom clouds was just wrong in so many ways..

There was also an Area51 exhibition on the museum premises but as we arrived a bit late and only had one hour before the museum closed, we just walked quickly through the displays, and we didn’t have the time to read about the could-be extraterrestrial encounters.

When it comes to nuclear weapons, I’ve always belonged to the “fascinated, but repelled” group of nervous spectators. “Fascinated” because of the enormous efforts put into developing this stuff. How about spending your entire life, figuring out how to most efficiently kill other people? How do these people find the motivation to get out of bed each morning? “Repelled” because I find it hard to grasp how humanity hit such an all-time low.

I know, at that time, in that context, no actual alternatives existed, but today, every aspiring dictator with an expense account can go and purchase his own personal A-bomb. I find the mere thought of that slightly discomforting..

There are so many aspects of the topic of nuclear weapons and visiting the National Atomic Testing Museum really triggered a lot of thoughts and added an unexpected, but appreciated dose of realpolitik to my Vegas trip. I am very happy that I went.

Las Vegas: Tacos El Gordo – More popular than ever

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne October 4, 2016
Tacos El Gordo, Las Vegas

The Mexican chain Tacos El Gordo is super popular in Las Vegas, but for a year, the most visited restaurant on The Strip (just north of Wynn/Encore) was closed because of a disagreement with the landlord. The branch opened again in late 2015, and today it seems more popular than ever.

The Dancing Fountains at Bellagio – Las Vegas Guide

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne August 27, 2016
Dancing Fountains at Bellagio, Las Vegas

The dancing fountains in the lake in front of the Bellagio is a beautiful sight and I always make sure to go and watch (sometimes several times), when I’m in Las Vegas. The show runs from the early afternoon and until midnight and never fails to attract a crowd. I prefer to go after dark, when the fountains are lit up and make the performance look even more impressive.

The music the fountains are “dancing” to varies, and includes both modern pop tunes and Frank Sinatra songs. There’s a list of the music featured on Bellagio’s website, but no matter what track is on, it always ends with a grand finale, during which the water pillars splash high up in the air.

• If you want front row views of the show, make sure to arrive well in advance before a show is about to start, in order to secure your spot right at the fence.

• It’s free to watch the dancing fountains

Marshalls is a chain of so-called off-price department store, selling branded goods at really low prices. Marshalls is slightly smaller than the Ross Store further north on the Strip, and the range of goods is rather limited, but the store is definitely worth checking out.

Las Vegas: Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne August 27, 2016
Miracle Mile Shops on The Strip, Las Vegas

Miracle Mile Shops is like a giant version of a typical American mall. Most of the shops are high street brands that you’ve most likely heard about before but there are also a couple of smaller local , and the mall is conveniently located at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino at the heart of The Strip. Not as upscale as some of the other malls along the Strip, but a good place to go if you need to pick up something from Sephora, or if you are looking for an affordable outfit for a night out.

Do not miss:

The Rainstorm Show: Each hour, the artificial sky darkens over the square in front of the Tommy Bahama store, and the rain starts pouring down.

Some of my favorite shops at Miracle Mile

Fat Tuesday

One of Fat Tuesday’s giant daiquiris makes you forget everything about aching feet and heavy shopping bags. My favorite is the Bellini-flavored one.

Karma & Luck

Good fortune bracelets and spiritual jewelry

Chinese Laundry:

Funny designs and cool shoes at affordable prices.

H&M:

One of the cheapest places in town to find a complete evening outfit or your new bikini.

Sephora:

The big Sephora store is located close to the Strip entrance to Miracle Mile Shops. Here is everything you need from mineral foundations, to false eyelashes and pink lip gloss.

Victoria’s Secret

The place to go for glitter body sprays and super-comfy panties.

Coyote Ugly is a loud but fun version of an urban saloon. The bar is refreshingly different from the rest of Las Vegas’ airbrushed and polished bars and clubs, and that’s what makes it perfect for one of those nights, where you’re walking around in jeans and bad hair and didn’t plan to go out.

Las Vegas: The Chandelier at The Cosmopolitan

by Mitzie Mee - Sanne August 26, 2016
The Chandelier - Las Vegas

The Chandelier is one of the best and most beautiful cocktail bars in Las Vegas. The 3-storey bar looks like a giant chandelier, and even though Chandelier is basically just a lobby bar, the numerous strands of crystal beads makes Chandelier appear a lot more upscale.

The lower floor of the bar is vibrant and groovy. There’s a DJ and the crowd tend to spill out on the surrounding casino floor. I prefer the less packed upper floors, where it’s usually easier to find a place to sit and the bartenders are less busy. The Chandelier is open 24/7 and the location right next to Marquee, which is one of the most hyped nightclubs in Las Vegas, makes it an obvious place to start (and end) a night out.

The cocktail menu is focused and exquisite, but the most popular cocktail at Chandelier, The Verbena, isn’t on the menu anymore. Though it doesn’t mean that you can’t order it, just ask for it.

The Verbena is served with a Szechuan Button (a dried flower) on top, and before you start drinking, you chew the flower. The flower contains a substance which super-charge your taste buds so each sip of the drink feels like a tingling mini-explosion in your mouth. Not to be missed!

•  Most cocktails are around $14, which might sound a bit pricey for a lobby bar, but they’re all carefully crafted and definitely worth the price.

Chandelier is best for: Great cocktails in chic surroundings, after-dinnner or pre-clubbing drinks
