On our way back to Denmark, we spent a weekend in Bergen, where we checked into Skostredet Hotel & Spa. Our room was up on the sixth floor, and it had a rather unusual layout. It was long and narrow, with sloping ceilings and a very low bed. Not the most practical design, but it was really cozy, and I actually liked the room quite a bit.
We arrived in the late afternoon, so after unpacking and relaxing for a while, we went out for dinner. We had booked a table at Sabi Sushi, which is a Norwegian sushi chain, a bit like Sticks & Sushi in Denmark. We’d been in Norway for seven weeks at that point, without having sushi once, so I thought it was about time.
We ordered the Chef’s Choice menu, which included a selection of different dishes. First, we had sashimi with a really good dressing on top. I’ve forgotten what kind of fish it was, but it tasted delicious. Then we had tuna tartare, served with little crispy sheets of fried nori, so you could make your own little bites with the tuna on top. I really liked that one.
After that came the sushi. We had two rolls, one with salmon and avocado and one with crab, as well as four pieces of nigiri. Everything was really good.
Eating out in Norway is incredibly expensive, but I think Sabi Sushi is actually quite reasonably priced for the quality you get. So if you’re in Bergen and feel like having sushi, I can definitely recommend it.
When we’d finished eating, Steve joked that he was still a little hungry and that he might have to start eating his napkin soon. So I suggested we stop by 3-Kroneren on the way back. It’s a popular hot dog stand in the center of Bergen, and I thought a hot dog might be just what he needed. But apparently, he wasn’t that hungry after all, so we decided to head back to the hotel.
When we got back, though, we ended up stopping by the hotel’s Izakaya restaurant for a couple of drinks. We also ordered their miso white chocolate crème brûlée, which sounded really interesting, and we were both curious to try it. The savory flavor of the miso went really well with the sweet white chocolate, and it was such a good dessert.
