After breakfast we took the bus to Koukounaries Beach. It's probably one of the best-known beaches on Skiathos, and it's really beautiful with sandy bottom and crystal-clear water. Though it's also really popular, and there were a lot of people on the beach that day.
Two sun loungers and an umbrella were €30–40. It seems to be the standard price here on Skiathos but I still think that’s a lot of money to pay for a sun lounger, especially if you, like us, you rarely spend more than an hour or two at the beach. Instead, we found a spot under a big shady tree where we could settle down for free.
The water was really nice, but the beach was pretty crowded, so after going for a swim twice, we decided to head back. On the way, we stopped once again at Lory’s Souvlaki for lunch.
The day before, I’d had the gyros pita, but this time I ordered the pork souvlaki pita, and I actually liked it better. The meat was really good and juicy, and not quite as salty as the gyros. So good! I think we’ve officially found our regular lunch spot.
In the evening we took the water taxi from into Skiathos Town. The boat leaves from Tzaneria Beach (the beach just below the hotel), and it’s such a nice way to get into town. The ride along the coast is almost like a little excursion in itself, and it is much nicer than taking the bus.
Down at the Old Port we arrived just in time to see the Mamma Mia boat pull in, just like the night before, with music playing and a boat full of people in a party mood.
We then walked out to Bourtzi, which is the small peninsula between the Old Port and the New Port, where you’ll also find the Museum of Maritime and Cultural Tradition of Skiathos. We didn’t go inside the museum, but the view from Bourtzi of the Old Port and the town is really beautiful.
We had a reservation at Maria’s Pizza, but we still had some time before our table was ready, so we stopped at Portobello for a drink.
Maria’s Pizza is supposed to be one of the best places for Italian food on Skiathos, so our expectations were pretty high when we sat down. We ordered spaghetti carbonara and a pizza with prosciutto. The carbonara was really good, but also quite rich and very filling. The pizza was perfect, and as usual, we shared both the pizza and the pasta.
After dinner, we wandered around the little streets of Skiathos Town because, once again, we had loukoumades on our minds. They’ve actually turned out to be surprisingly difficult to find on Skiathos, but we had spotted a place that sold them. The only problem was that, once again, we were way too full after dinner, so there were no loukoumades for us this time either.
