Farm to Table is one of my favorite places in Phnom Penh, so of course I had to take Steve there, too. We went for brunch and found a table in the cozy little courtyard, where chickens wander around clucking beneath a large chempedak tree that always seems to be full of funny, spiky fruits. A rooster also came over to say hello before settling in to crow right next to our table.
I almost always order their Green Bowl, which is packed with crisp vegetables and tastes really good. I’ve also had some excellent jackfruit tacos there, though I’m not sure whether they’re still on the menu. Steve ordered the shakshuka, which was also really good and came with plenty of bread for scooping up every last bit of that delicious red sauce.
The menu used to be mostly vegetarian and vegan, but they’ve added more meat dishes since my first visit, and the selection has become a bit more mainstream.
While we were eating, it started pouring, and the rain drummed against the roof for more than fifteen minutes. Luckily, we were sitting somewhere dry, so we stayed put and enjoyed the rest of our brunch.
The restaurant works closely with local farmers, with a focus on fresh ingredients and organic farming. The clientele is mostly the usual NGO crowd, and it’s fairly expensive by Phnom Penh standards, but I think it’s worth the money. The food is really good, and it’s nice to know you’re supporting a project that helps promote more sustainable farming in Cambodia.
