We slept late the next morning. Really late, actually, and the one-hour time difference certainly didn’t help. Luckily, breakfast at the hotel is served until 10:30am, so we made it down to the buffet just in time.
Breakfast turned out to be really good. There was good coffee, fresh fruit, and delicious Greek yogurt, and you could make your own Greek salad with tomatoes, cucumber, feta, and olives. I could definitely get used to Greek salad for breakfast.
It wasn’t until that morning that we really got to see just how beautiful the location of the hotel, Cape Kanapitsa, is. We had arrived after dark the night before, but in daylight, there was water almost everywhere we looked. From our room, from the restaurant, and from the terrace. Such a nice hotel.
After breakfast, we walked down to Tzaneria Beach, just below the hotel. It’s a small Blue Flag beach with crystal-clear water. Two sun loungers and an umbrella were €30. Yikes. We were only there for a quick swim, so we found a spot on the sand next to the lifeguard tower, left our things there, and went straight into the water. Perfect.
For lunch, we walked up to Lory’s Souvlaki, a small gyros and souvlaki place a short walk from the beach. Steve ordered chicken souvlaki, and I got pork gyros, both wrapped in pita with tzatziki, vegetables, and fries. I love those big, soft fries they put in the pita in Greece. Together with the meat, tzatziki, and vegetables, it's so tasty.
In the evening, we took the bus into Skiathos Town. The bus runs every 10 minutes, and the stop is right at the bottom of the hill from the hotel, so getting back and forth is really easy.
We started with a happy hour drink down by the harbor and sat watching the boats come in. One of them was a Mamma Mia party boat, and as it pulled into the harbor, “Mamma Mia” was of course blasting from the speakers while everyone danced on board. Nobody got off until the song was over. It looked like they’d had a pretty festive day out on the water.
Afterward, we walked over to Sakis, a small family-run taverna, for dinner. We ordered octopus, Greek salad, and taramosalata, which was fantastic. Taramosalata is a classic Greek dip made with tarama, salted fish roe, mixed with ingredients such as olive oil and lemon, and often bread or potato. The staff told us theirs was homemade, and it was really good. One of the best things we had that evening. The octopus and Greek salad were delicious too.
After dinner, we wandered through the small, narrow streets of Skiathos Town. It’s such a nice place to be in the evening, when the restaurants are full, the shops are still open, and people are out strolling through the streets. We walked around for a while, debating whether or not to get some loukoumades, but in the end we decided to skip them and caught the bus back to the hotel.
Another great day on Skiathos.
