Julekonfekt – A traditional Danish Christmas treat

Julekonfekt – A traditional Danish Christmas treat

Danish Julekonfekt is a traditional Danish Christmas treat. The term “Julekonfekt” roughly translates to “Christmas confectionery” in English and it encompasses a variety of sweet items typically enjoyed during the Christmas season with homemade marzipan & nougat creations taking center stage.

Danish marzipan is made primarily from almond paste, which consists of finely ground almonds mixed with sugar. The marzipan in Denmark has a high almond content, often around 60% or more, and it is a lot less sweet than the marzipan I’ve tried in other countries.

Danish nougat is a soft, sweet confection made from a blend of chocolate and hazelnuts. This is different from the traditional nougat known in other parts of Europe, which is a honey and egg white confection. Danish nougat is creamy and smooth, and melts in your mouth. The flavor is rich and chocolaty with a noticeable nutty undertone from the hazelnuts.

Danish julekonfekt is known for its festive appearance and is often creatively decorated, making julekonfekt both a delicious and visually appealing part of Danish Christmas celebrations. It is commonly made at home and can vary greatly in terms of ingredients and styles, reflecting personal or regional tastes. The julekonfekt in the photos and the video is not of the prettiest kind, but we made it the day before Christmas Eve and we were in a rush:)
